Webinar: Cannabis: Friend or foe? An evidence-based debate

Date: December 20, 2021 @ 04:00 PM CET / 05:00 PM Israel IST / 10:00 AM EST

The use of cannabis for treatment of different medical conditions is constantly increasing in many places around the world. While evidence is accumulating to support the integration of cannabis into healthcare, this process is still in its infancy. Moreover, despite the therapeutic potential of cannabis and cannabinoids, this treatment modality remains associated with numerous uncertainties and controversies. At the same time, legalization of cannabis for adult use is enacted in more and more places and considered in other jurisdictions. This trend is associated with even more health-related concerns, both in the individual level and for public health in general.

In this CannX webinar, two distinguished physicians will carry out an evidence-based debate about the pros and cons of medical cannabis. They will engage with the audience to determine together: is cannabis a friend or a foe? The debate will delve into such questions as what limits, if any, should be imposed on THC content? Should edibles be allowed or banned? How should driving under the influence of medical cannabis be regulated?

Date: June 10, 2021 @ 04:00 PM CEST/05:00 PM Israel IDT / 10:00 AM ET

The prevalence of cannabis use for different aspects of cancer care is constantly increasing. Indeed, cannabis and cannabinoids have been suggested as potential modulators for common and debilitating symptoms which are associated with cancer and anti-cancer treatments, such as pain, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting. To a certain extent, there is evidence to additionally support the potential of cannabinoids for additional symptoms that impact cancer patients, such as gastrointestinal distress, peripheral neuropathy, as well as depression and anxiety.
Notwithstanding, the body of knowledge is still in its infancy and has several limitations. Furthermore, cancer patients are very heterogenic, thus limiting the possibility to conclusively draw firm conclusions or clinical recommendations. In this CannX webinar, two distinguished oncologists will share their experience of integrating cannabis into cancer care and will present findings from studies that they have recently conducted.

The FDA defines Real-World Evidence as the “clinical evidence regarding the usage and potential benefits or risks of a medical product derived from analysis of Real-world data”. Although double-blind randomized trials have been the “holy grail” in clinical studies for decades, Real-World Evidence is increasingly playing an important role in health care decision. This development is partly facilitated by the use of computers, mobile devices and other digital platforms. Given that cannabis is being used by millions of patients worldwide, without being proven as safe and effective by randomized trials, Real-World Evidence is an invaluable tool for advising clinicians and patients alike regarding safe and effective usage of medical cannabis.
